There can be no doubt that a loft conversion is a great idea for most homes. Not only does a loft conversion add more space to your property but it can also up the value by around 20% which is pretty significant!
There aren’t any rules which say that you should or must replace your roof tiles before you have your loft converted but it is a good idea to do so.
Some of the reasons for having your roof tiles repaired or replaced around the same time as you are having your loft converted are as follows.
- Money saving: If you decide not to have the tiles replaced but then need to do so in the near future, you’re going to be shelling out twice for the costs involved when it comes to scaffolding.
- Upheaval: Any repairs or alterations to the fabric of a home will cause upheaval, so why not keep it all to a single time period? Get it all done in one fell swoop and then you don’t have to worry about it for a long time!
- Aesthetics: For some styles of loft conversion, a portion of the roof must be removed. If your tiles have seen better days, then this could be the perfect time to think about some replacements.
- Leaks: Old tiles can and do leak; even slight dampness can cause damage to an interior and once mould gets a grip on your interior walls it’s very difficult to fix.
